Following many years of presenting smaller group UK concerts, playing not only the many styles of recognised Brazillian composers, including Antonio Carls Jobim and Sergio Mendes among others, but also his original compositions and arrangements of the infectious Samba, Bossa Nova, Choro and Brazillian Reggae rhythms, we welcome the Dean Street return of the Brazilian composer, arranger, and guitarist Luiz Morais. This concert marks his highly anticipated debut as a Big Band leader and music director playing his music that is a unique contribution to the current UK music scene, supported by the Arts Council of Great Britain.
Gathering some of the highest-caliber jazz musicians in the UK, the Luiz Morais Brazilian Big Band creates a masterful blend of lively rhythms, rich orchestrations, and dynamic improvisation. From the roots of Samba and Bossa Nova and Northeastern rhythms to intricate jazz harmonies, the band will transport you on a journey through a dynamic fusion of styles through arrangements that capture the essence of Brazil while pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz.
